Sharing the road
Much can be done to make bicycling safer
Anyone who rides a bicycle for sport or for transportation has taken to heart the recent death of a cyclist and the severe injury of her companion in Jessamine County.
The tragedy epitomizes every bicyclist's worst nightmare.
Stacy King and her friend, Lisanne Pohl, an exchange student visiting from Germany, were enjoying a leisurely ride on Union Mill Road on May 8 when a car slammed into them. King, 26, who lived in Jessamine County, died that day. Lisanne, 17, has undergone operations and therapy to repair broken bones and shattered kneecaps. She might never fully recover physically or psychologically.
The driver, Mark A. Usher of Lexington, was indicted last month by a grand jury on charges of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault...Read the rest "here"
